Reactive Portrait

Turn a photo into a musical portrait with ripples, twists and split colors. Six looks range from subtle movement to neon and striped effects.

Reactive Portrait bends a still photo with your music. Drop an image into Photo, or choose Open Camera and Use Camera Snapshot. Start with Living Portrait, try Liquid Mirror for stronger ripples, or Museum Quiet for a restrained portrait. Without a photo, Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait appears. The painted figure stands in front of a curved field of moving brushwork. Layer Depth increases their separation and opens the brushwork into a wider curved surround at higher values, while keeping the face intact. Use Camera Travel to explore the space between them. Top and Iso offer gentle elevated and angled views that keep the face visible; Inside moves closer to the painting. Uploaded photos retain their own backgrounds.

Open Reactive Portrait

Launch the visualizer with its matching left-nav entry selected.

Quick start

  1. Start the demo track, choose a local audio file, or enable a live input.
  2. Try a preset or style first, then open the section for the part of the image you want to change.
  3. On a control with Assign modulation, open the source picker, choose a signal, and watch the slider's live fill.
  4. Use Reset to Defaults whenever you want to return to the original look.

How do I share a factory look?

Open SHARE A LOOK, choose a preset from FACTORY LOOK, and select COPY LOOK LINK. The link opens that original preset with its audio reactions. Personal slider edits and music are not included. Use OPEN LOOK to preview what the recipient will see.

How do I share my edited look?

Open SHARE A LOOK, select PREPARE MY LOOK, then choose COPY MY LOOK LINK. The link includes your current visual settings, modulation routes, and generator settings. Music is not included. Use OPEN MY LOOK to preview the result. Prepare a new link after making more edits.

Audio modulation

On a control with Assign modulation, select the activity icon to open Modulate with. Choose a named source, or choose — None to leave the control unmodulated. After you assign one, its name appears below the slider; select that name to edit the route, or use Clear modulation to remove it. The slider track shows the live signal reaching the control.

Modulated controlSectionWhat the route changes
Portrait SizePortraitSets the portrait size while preserving its proportions. Large values can crop the image at the canvas edge.
Wave BendPortraitSets how strongly the waveform bends details within the image.
Ripple DepthPortraitSets the depth of circular ripples through the image.
Ripple DensityPortraitSets the number of ripples. Raise Ripple Depth to see them.
TwistPortraitTurns the surrounding image while keeping central facial detail steadier. Negative values twist the other way.
Motion SpeedPortraitSets ripple travel speed. Zero holds the ripple movement; music can still bend the image.
Color SplitColorSeparates the red and blue edges horizontally.
Tint MixColorBlends the original photo colors into the selected palette. Zero keeps the original colors.
HueColorChooses the palette hue when Tint Mix is above zero.
Color SpreadColorSeparates colors across dark and light regions when Tint Mix is above zero.
ContrastColorChanges the separation between light and dark details.
ScanlinesColorAdds horizontal dark stripes over the portrait.
Camera SpeedCameraSets how quickly camera changes or moves.
Camera TravelCameraSets how far the camera wanders from its chosen view; 0 holds it still and higher values sweep it through wider arcs.

Tips for a better audio visualization

  • Presets preserve your photo and Background Opacity. Your photo stays in this browser and is saved with your settings and Studio project; look links omit the photo.
  • Motion Speed needs Ripple Depth above zero. Hue and Color Spread need Tint Mix above zero. Wave Bend, Sensitivity and Response need audio.
  • To hold all movement, set Motion Speed, Camera Speed and Sensitivity to zero and clear modulation.
  • If the camera is busy or permission is denied, close the camera and upload an image instead. Close Camera also cancels a pending request.
  • In Studio, add the visualizer to a Blank template, choose your photo in its settings, and lower Background Opacity to place the portrait over another layer.
