Scene Sequencer

Automatic scene cycling in Performer mode — building sequences, timing in beats or seconds, transitions, and MIDI binding.

The Scene Sequencer automatically cycles through presets on a timer or a beat grid. It's the secret to professional, evolving live visual sets without constant manual switching.

Available in Performer mode — open it with the Scene Sequencer button in the control bar. The panel's DETACH SEQUENCER header button moves it into its own small window, and the full panel is also available inside the detached operator window — see Detached Controls.

Building a Sequence

Each scene in the list is a preset plus a hold time:

  1. Click ADD SCENE, pick a preset from the dropdown, and confirm — or simply drag a preset pad from the preset grid (or the detached controls window) onto the sequencer to append it as a scene
  2. Set the scene's duration (1–99) and its unit — B (beats, synced to the current BPM) or S (seconds)
  3. Pick the scene's transition: CUT, CROSSFADE, or MORPH
  4. Use the up/down arrows to reorder scenes, or the × to remove one
  5. Press Play — the sequencer advances through the list, showing a live countdown on the active scene

Clicking any scene row jumps straight to it (and starts the sequencer if it's stopped). RESET SEQUENCER clears the whole list after a confirmation.

Quick Playlists

The QUICK row builds a complete sequence in one click:

  • ALL — the first 12 factory presets with crossfades
  • CHILL — ambient presets with long holds and slow crossfades
  • ENERGY — energetic presets with short holds and hard cuts
  • CLEAR — remove all scenes

Everything a quick playlist creates is editable afterwards.

Transitions

TransitionEffect
CUTInstant switch — best for beat-synced EDM and techno sets
CROSSFADESmooth opacity blend between the outgoing and incoming presets
MORPHInterpolates parameters between presets

Crossfade and morph use a short transition window — roughly half a second, or a couple of beats when BPM sync is on.

Transport & Timing

The header row holds the transport:

  • Play / Stop — starts and stops the cycle
  • LOOP — restart from the first scene when the list ends
  • SHUFFLE — randomize the scene order
  • BPM — toggles BPM sync; switching it converts every scene's timing between beats and seconds at the current tempo

The BPM itself is the session tempo — the same readout in the settings footer, Analysis Engine, and Performer. Tap T or click that readout to override. See Tempo & Tap Tempo.

MIDI Binding

Every transport control (Play, Stop, Loop, Shuffle, BPM sync) has a small M button next to it:

  • Click the M button, then press a note on your controller — the binding is saved (learn times out after 10 seconds)
  • Right-click the M button to clear the binding

The first 8 scenes are also triggerable from MIDI notes 112–119 — on an APC Mini MK2 those are the side-column buttons, and each scene row shows its note number (e.g. N112). See MIDI Integration.

Tips

Build your scenes before your set. A great set is 80% preparation, 20% live adjustment. Create, test, and order scenes at soundcheck.

Use longer holds for ambient music and shorter for club music. Long BPM-synced holds breathe with slow material; 8-beat holds keep pace with dance floors.

Match transitions to genre. Hard cuts land with percussive music; crossfades suit ambient and melodic material. The CHILL and ENERGY quick playlists are pre-configured this way.
