Interesting facts

A wormhole — formally an Einstein-Rosen bridge — is a hypothetical shortcut through spacetime that general relativity's equations permit but that has never actually been observed. BeamTracer's Wormhole is a flythrough tunnel built for visual and audio impact, not a claim that a traversable shortcut like this could really exist.

  • Wormholes came out of Einstein's math, not a telescope. In 1935, Einstein and Nathan Rosen showed that general relativity's equations allow a bridge connecting two distant points in spacetime — a purely theoretical result from day one.
  • Nothing like one has ever been detected. NASA researchers are blunt about this: general relativity permits wormholes mathematically, but there is no observational evidence for anything like one anywhere in the universe.
  • Keeping one open would take matter nobody has ever produced. Calculations suggest a stable, traversable wormhole would need to be propped open with "exotic" matter that has negative energy density — something physicists have no known way to create or sustain.
  • The name is newer than the idea. The bridge concept dates to 1935, but physicist John Wheeler didn't coin the term "wormhole" until the 1950s.
  • Interstellar's wormhole was built from real relativity. For the 2014 film, physicist Kip Thorne supplied Einstein's general-relativity equations to the visual-effects team, and the resulting renderings were accurate enough to produce two peer-reviewed papers on gravitational lensing.

Quick start

  1. Start the demo track, choose a local audio file, or enable a live input.
  2. Try a preset or style first, then open the section for the part of the image you want to change.
  3. On a control with Assign modulation, open the source picker, choose a signal, and watch the slider's live fill.
  4. Use Reset to Defaults whenever you want to return to the original look.

Audio modulation

On a control with Assign modulation, select the activity icon to open Modulate with. Choose a named source, or choose — None to leave the control unmodulated. After you assign one, its name appears below the slider; select that name to edit the route, or use Clear modulation to remove it. The slider track shows the live signal reaching the control.

Some controls appear only after you enable a related mode or style. The settings panel always reflects the options available for the current selection.

Tips for a better audio visualization

  • Use bass for the largest orbital or camera motion and highs for stars, sparks, or glow accents.
  • Try assigning Bass to Bloom, then compare Mid, High, and Volume while the demo track plays. The slider's live fill shows the signal reaching that control.
