Interesting facts

The Big Bang describes the origin and ongoing expansion of the observable universe from an extremely hot, dense early state roughly 13.8 billion years ago. BeamTracer's exploding particle field is a stylized, audio-reactive burst inspired by that idea, not an attempt to model actual cosmology.

  • It wasn't an explosion into empty space. Space itself stretched, and it did so everywhere at once — there's no single point of origin you could travel to and no center to the universe. Every distant galaxy appears to be moving away from every other one, consistent with expansion rather than debris flying outward from a blast site.
  • The universe is about 13.8 billion years old. Scientists arrive at that figure mainly by measuring how fast the universe is expanding today and running the expansion backward, then cross-checking against the oldest light and oldest stars observed.
  • The cosmic microwave background is the afterglow. About 380,000 years after the Big Bang, the universe cooled enough for atoms to form, and light was finally able to travel freely. That relic light, now stretched to a faint microwave glow, is the oldest light astronomers can observe.
  • A moment of inflation set the stage. In an instant far less than a second long, the very early universe is thought to have expanded enormously faster than light-speed travel through space, stretching tiny quantum fluctuations into the seeds of future galaxies.
  • Expansion hasn't stopped — it's speeding up. After the initial expansion slowed under gravity, observations show the universe's growth rate has been accelerating for the last several billion years, a trend attributed to dark energy.

  3. On a control with Assign modulation, open the source picker, choose a signal, and watch the slider's live fill.
  4. Use Reset to Defaults whenever you want to return to the original look.

Audio modulation

On a control with Assign modulation, select the activity icon to open Modulate with. Choose a named source, or choose — None to leave the control unmodulated. After you assign one, its name appears below the slider; select that name to edit the route, or use Clear modulation to remove it. The slider track shows the live signal reaching the control.

Some controls appear only after you enable a related mode or style. The settings panel always reflects the options available for the current selection.

Tips for a better audio visualization

  • Use bass for the largest orbital or camera motion and highs for stars, sparks, or glow accents.
  • Try assigning Bass to Size, then compare Mid, High, and Volume while the demo track plays. The slider's live fill shows the signal reaching that control.
