Interesting facts

A gravitational singularity is what general relativity predicts at the exact center of a black hole: a point where matter is compressed without limit and the normal rules of physics stop giving useful answers. BeamTracer's Singularity turns that boundary — the crushed core, the horizon around it, and the glowing disk that feeds it — into a raymarched, audio-reactive instrument, not a literal solution to Einstein's field equations.

  • The event horizon is a one-way boundary, not a surface. Inside it, the speed needed to escape exceeds the speed of light, so nothing that crosses in — not even light — can come back out.
  • That's precisely why black holes look black. Because light itself gets dragged inward past the horizon, a black hole neither emits nor reflects light of its own; everything astronomers see comes from matter that hasn't fallen in yet.
  • The glow comes from friction, not the hole itself. Infalling gas doesn't drop straight in — it spirals into a hot, fast-spinning accretion disk first, and collisions within that disk heat it to millions of degrees before it finally crosses the horizon.
  • Neutron stars are what's left when collapse stops just short of a singularity. If a dying star's core weighs in at roughly one to three solar masses, its matter gets crushed into neutrons and the collapse halts there; add more mass and the collapse continues all the way to a black hole.
  • Quasars are accretion scaled up to galactic size. When a supermassive black hole pulls in enormous amounts of matter, the resulting disk and particle jets can outshine every star in its host galaxy combined.

  2. Try a preset or style first, then open the section for the part of the image you want to change.
  3. On a control with Assign modulation, open the source picker, choose a signal, and watch the slider's live fill.
  4. Use Reset to Defaults whenever you want to return to the original look.

Audio modulation

On a control with Assign modulation, select the activity icon to open Modulate with. Choose a named source, or choose — None to leave the control unmodulated. After you assign one, its name appears below the slider; select that name to edit the route, or use Clear modulation to remove it. The slider track shows the live signal reaching the control.

Some controls appear only after you enable a related mode or style. The settings panel always reflects the options available for the current selection.

Tips for a better audio visualization

  • Use bass for the largest orbital or camera motion and highs for stars, sparks, or glow accents.
  • Try assigning Bass to Raymarch Iterations, then compare Mid, High, and Volume while the demo track plays. The slider's live fill shows the signal reaching that control.
