Data Tunnel
Fly through a tunnel of glowing characters, from zeros and ones to Matrix code, that the music pushes outward ring by ring.
Data Tunnel flies you down a tunnel made of characters: two layers of rings, each one a circle of letters, digits or marks that spins around you. The music pushes every ring outward, and the push travels down the tunnel, so a hit you hear now moves the near rings first and reaches the far ones a moment later. Beats light rings that travel the same way. The characters are the same sets the ASCII effect uses in the FX Rack, and Matrix runs falling code down the walls. By default the bass speeds the flight and pushes the rings, the mids spin them, and the highs brighten the rings closest to you.

Quick start
- Start the demo track, choose a local audio file, or enable a live input.
- Try a preset or style first, then open the section for the part of the image you want to change.
- On a control with Assign modulation, open the source picker, choose a signal, and watch the slider's live fill.
- Use Reset to Defaults whenever you want to return to the original look.

Audio modulation
On a control with Assign modulation, select the activity icon to open Modulate with. Choose a named source, or choose — None to leave the control unmodulated. After you assign one, its name appears below the slider; select that name to edit the route, or use Clear modulation to remove it. The slider track shows the live signal reaching the control.

Characters
| Setting | Available values | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Characters | STANDARD, DETAILED, LETTERS, TERMINAL, MINIMAL, BINARY, SYMBOLS, KANJI, KOREAN HANGUL, RANDOM · MIXED, CUSTOM, BRAILLE, BLOCKS, DOTS, LINES, DIAGONAL, CROSS, DIAMOND | Which characters fill the tunnel: the same sets as the ASCII effect in the FX Rack, from zeros and ones to letters, kanji, braille dots or drawn blocks, or your own. |
| Custom Characters | Text, up to 96 characters | The letters, digits or symbols to use when Characters is Custom. |
| Font | TERMINAL, JETBRAINS, TYPEWRITER | The typeface the characters are drawn in. |
| Pick | RANDOM, BY LEVEL | Random gives each spot any character of the set; By Level shows denser characters where the tunnel is brighter, as the ASCII effect does for brighter parts of a picture. |
| Flicker | 0 /s–12 /s | How many times a second each character changes to another; 0 keeps them fixed. Use Assign modulation to choose a source. |
| Character Size | 0.02–0.16 | How large each character is drawn. Use Assign modulation to choose a source. |
Light
| Setting | Available values | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | 0.05–1.2 | How bright the characters are. Use Assign modulation to choose a source. |
| Near Glow | 0–2 | Brightness of the rings closest to you. Use Assign modulation to choose a source. |
| Far Glow | 0–1.5 | How bright the far rings stay, the soft core of the tunnel. Use Assign modulation to choose a source. |

Color
| Setting | Available values | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Color | HUE, PALETTE | Hue colors the tunnel in one hue; Palette inks it like the ASCII effect's palettes, darker inks for dimmer characters and the paper behind. |

Tips for a better audio visualization
- Start with Violet Stream, then try Matrix for falling green code with bright heads, or Monochrome for white text on black.
- Pick Characters to change what fills the tunnel: Binary zeros and ones, letters, Kanji, Braille dots, drawn Blocks, or Custom with your own text in Custom Characters. Font changes the typeface.
- Set Pick to By Level so brighter parts of the tunnel show denser characters, the way the ASCII effect shades a picture. Flicker changes characters to others while they fly.
- Choose Matrix under Field for digital rain down the walls. Rain Speed sets how fast it falls toward you and Trail Length how long each stream trails.
- Raise Wave Amount to let the music push the rings further, change Wave Lobes for more or fewer bulges, and lengthen Echo Delay to slow the push as it travels down the tunnel. Beat Rings lights a ring on each beat.
- Under Color, Hue colors the tunnel in one hue; Palette uses the ASCII palettes, such as Matrix, Phosphor, Amber or Newsprint's dark ink on light paper.
- Lower Brightness or Glow if the characters wash out on your screen, and use Fade Start and Fade End to set how far down the tunnel they fade away.
- Use Background Opacity when layering Data Tunnel over another source in Studio.
