How Do I Make Laser Text Write Itself One Stroke at a Time?

To make laser text write itself, open BeamTracer Text to Laser, type a word, and choose LETTER STYLE → HANDWRITING. Under ANIMATION & MODIFIERS, select WRITE, then set STROKE STAGGER → 1.00 to reveal the strokes one at a time. DOWNLOAD ILDA saves the resulting animation for playback.

Hi, I'm Trina with BeamTracer.com. Use a short word while you adjust the drawing order. Check the complete reveal before changing the colors or choosing a different starting stroke.

The downloaded BEAM animation replaying in ILDA Viewer's Cinema view, with an orbiting camera. This is a software simulation. All clips on this page are silent.

How do I make text draw one stroke at a time?

Choose HANDWRITING for the built-in single-stroke alphabet, then apply WRITE. WRITE adds an editable Trace Reveal modifier. Set its DURATION for the writing time and STROKE STAGGER for how much the strokes overlap.

  1. Open Text to Laser and type BEAM in WORDS OR SYMBOL.
  2. Choose LETTER STYLE → HANDWRITING.
  3. Adjust SIZE until the whole word fits, then press CENTER.
  4. Expand ANIMATION & MODIFIERS and choose WRITE under QUICK STARTS.
  5. Set Trace Reveal's DURATION → 6.00 s, STROKE STAGGER → 1.00, and STROKE ORDER → Source.
  6. Press PLAY on Trace Reveal to restart the chain and watch the complete word form.
  7. Open ILDA OUTPUT, choose an EXPORT RATE, and press DOWNLOAD ILDA to save the animation as an .ild file.

HANDWRITING with WRITE, DURATION 6 seconds, STROKE STAGGER 1.00 and SPEED VARIATION 0.30. KEEP LASER TRACE leaves the finished strokes visible behind the leading dot.

HANDWRITING uses BeamTracer's alphabet and supports up to 18 characters. If you need a particular typeface, choose FONT OUTLINE or CENTER TRACE instead. The laser font guide shows the difference between outlines and single strokes.

How do I make strokes overlap or change their order?

Lower STROKE STAGGER to let strokes begin together. At 0 they overlap; at 1 they draw one at a time. STROKE ORDER changes the sequence without changing the underlying letter shapes.

STROKE STAGGER changes from 1.00 → 0.00 → 1.00. PLAY restarts the reveal after each change so you can compare overlapping strokes with a single writing front.

Try Left to Right for a directional reveal, Reverse to reverse the source order, or Center Out to start near the middle. SPEED VARIATION changes the rhythm within the strokes. Keep it low while comparing the order so you can see what changed.

How do I add flowing color to the writing?

Choose NEON INK under QUICK STARTS. It creates a chain of Trace Reveal, Color Flow and Ink Settle. You can edit those cards individually after selecting the recipe.

NEON INK with DURATION 6 seconds, STROKE STAGGER 1.00, and Color Flow's PALETTE set to Warm. COLOR MIX is 0.50, blending the palette with the original green.

Choosing a Quick Start replaces the modifier chain. Use SAVE PRESET before trying another one if you want to keep your adjustments. PLAY restarts the chain; RESET on a modifier restores that card's settings.

How long will the downloaded ILDA animation be?

Text to Laser shows the total below the modifiers. In this example, a 6-second reveal plus HOLD AFTER EFFECT → 3.0 s produces a 9-second animation. At FRAME RATE → 30 FPS, the downloaded file contains 270 frames.

The green WRITE version is downloaded at the Standard 30 kpps export rate. Match the export rate in your ILDA player.

Open that downloaded file in ILDA Viewer, set PLAYBACK CONTROLS → FPS → 30, and turn BEAT SYNC → OFF to check its original timing. Watch the beginning as well as the finished word: a completed final frame alone does not tell you whether the reveal was exported.

The actual downloaded file reloaded in Viewer, playing at 30 FPS with beat sync off.

For the opening view, switch Viewer to 3D, choose SCENE → BEAM MODE → Cinema — Premium fog, and select Orbit Mode. Pause on the completed word if you want to inspect its placement while the camera moves. Drag the view toward the front if the orbit begins behind the lettering. Cinema is a software preview; it does not establish scanner behavior or exposure safety for a physical installation.
