How Do I Make Video-to-Laser Outlines Steadier?

In BeamTracer VIDEO → LASER, leave FRAME CONTEXT on under CLASSIC → ANIMATION before converting. It uses neighboring frames to keep contour starts and drawing order steadier and remove one-frame specks. Download the converted ILDA animation and replay it in ILDA VIEWER. The source preview still traces each frame independently.

Hi, I'm Trina with BeamTracer.com. A dancer should change pose. What I'm watching for is a tiny extra loop that appears inside the outline for one frame, then vanishes. FRAME CONTEXT uses the rest of the clip to help distinguish those stray marks from the movement.

FRAME CONTEXT on. All 50 converted frames at 10 FPS. The off comparison below uses the same source, method, frame rate and framing; both replay the actual saved ILDA files.

How do I turn on FRAME CONTEXT before exporting?

The switch is on by default. In CLASSIC, expand ANIMATION to find FRAME CONTEXT below TARGET FPS and POV (BLUR). If you use PIPELINE, the same setting is Frame context in Optimizer.

  1. Open Video to Laser, upload a short video, or choose the built-in DANCE SILHOUETTE example.
  2. Choose a conversion method and inspect the traced outline. These examples use SVG PARSER, TARGET FPS 10 and POV (BLUR) 1.
  3. In CLASSIC → ANIMATION, leave FRAME CONTEXT on.
  4. Press CONVERT 50 FRAMES for this example; your button shows the number of extracted frames in your own clip.
  5. Read Conversion Complete and any messages about overloaded frames. If the conversion drops detail you need, lower the frame rate or detail before converting again.
  6. Choose DOWNLOAD ILD to save the converted animation, then open that file in ILDA Viewer to inspect it.

FRAME CONTEXT changes from on to off and back on. The preview does not show the result of this switch; convert the clip to see the difference.

What changes when FRAME CONTEXT is off?

With the switch off, the converter traces every frame on its own. A contour can start somewhere new or reverse its drawing direction from one frame to the next. Small marks can also appear for a single frame. With the switch on, the converter compares each frame with its neighbors before writing the animation.

FRAME CONTEXT off. A close native 2D view of all 50 converted frames at 10 FPS. Watch the small interior loops and disconnected marks.

Both files contain 50 frames in Format 5. In this example, the off version contains 9,979 stored points and the on version contains 8,826. Those totals include blanked travel. They describe this conversion, not a promised reduction for other videos.

Does it smooth away the animation?

FRAME CONTEXT makes small corrections to the traced contours. It stabilizes each contour's starting point, drawing direction and place in the drawing order. It removes isolated one-frame specks and can fill a contour missing for one or two frames from the shapes on either side.

The edge adjustment is small and uses the frames before and after the current frame, so it does not add the trailing motion of a live smoothing filter. Completely dark frames remain dark, and the converter does not carry a contour across a cut to another shot. With POV above 1, it also keeps a shape in the same POV lane from frame to frame.

Start with a clear subject and check that the trace follows its outline. If threshold or detail settings turn the subject into noise, correct the trace first. FRAME CONTEXT cannot restore a shape that the source never separates clearly.

Why doesn't the source preview look different?

The preview panes trace the selected frame on its own. FRAME CONTEXT has the whole clip available only during CONVERT, so inspect the converted animation in ILDA VIEWER. EXPORT SVG SEQUENCE is unaffected by the switch.

The native conversion reports 50 source frames. Both comparison conversions retained their full offline trace; neither needed the frame-budget fit to remove detail.

In the Viewer, expand PLAYBACK CONTROLS, set FPS to the conversion's frame rate, and choose BEAT SYNC → Off - Loop Freely for a full-file comparison. Pause and move the animation frame slider when a stray mark is too brief to inspect during playback. The Frame Context reference explains the conversion behavior.

Can I preview the result as simulated beams?

Choose 3D, open SCENE, and select Cinema — Premium fog under BEAM MODE. Choose Orbit Mode above the preview to view the playing paths from a moving camera. Use 2D to compare the outline itself. Lower plans can preview Cinema with a watermark; Studio includes the unwatermarked view.

The converted DANCE SILHOUETTE animation in a native Cinema orbit. This is a software simulation; no projector is connected.

A clean-looking animation and a green point-budget reading do not certify a laser setup. FRAME CONTEXT addresses continuity between frames. Dense frames can still need point-budget fitting, and that fitting can change which strokes survive. Check File Health and point demand and follow the laser output guide before using hardware.

Compare your own converted outlines

Convert a short clip with FRAME CONTEXT on, then replay the saved ILDA file to inspect its movement.
